Name: Rafaella Gonçalves

Rafaella Gonçalves is a solo mum of two boys and has found a way to support her family in the beauty industry. From an early age, Rafaella followed in the footsteps of her mother, who was a manicurist, and started working in beauty at the age of 15, when she was already brushing hair for family members, even though she didn’t have the right materials.

With the opening of FAETEC in the community, she decided to specialise as a hairdressing assistant, completing the course twice to keep up to date with the latest market developments. In 2009, she completed the course and gradually bought the necessary materials with the help of her mother. Rafaella expanded her skills by also training in waxing and eyebrow design.

Today, the entrepreneur has her own beauty parlour in the Santa Marta community, which is constantly being adapted to offer more comfort to her clients. Her big dream is to open a salon in nearby Botafogo, with a team to help her and provide an even more personalised service.

‘I’d been trying to sign up for the Hub Project since 2019, but I never succeeded. Finally, last year, I succeeded and the classes have been fundamental to building my business. I’m learning how to organise my schedule, price my work and better advertise what I do.’

Even with more than 10 years in the business, Rafaella continues to grow and learn. What sets her apart? ‘Here you have your wishes met and you leave even more beautiful.’
